Site Secrecy

There are 37 RAF sites across the UK at the moment. The RAF

is embedded into our communities, in not only the active bases but the old inactive

bases as well. It has become a normal part of local areas. The RAF has been in Northolt

since 1915, however, it has been solely a military base since 1954. It is home to the Queen’s Colour Squadron, Headquarters Music Service, The Central Band of the Royal Air Force and many, many more.

'Site Secrecy' looks into RAF Northolt and how it has been embedded into the local area. There are many aspects of which the base is seen by locals, it takes up a huge section of land, there are bus stop names, gate signs, pub names and lots more. We are so used to having those RAF signs and sites around us that we don’t really question it. We have become oblivious to the signs surrounding us.
